Growth in Prayer and Reflective Living Course

Growth in Prayer and Reflective Living

 October 2015 - April 2016
Thursday evenings, 7 - 9.30 pm

facilitated by...

Christchurch Centre, 6a Morningside Road, Edinburgh

This course aims to help participants develop and deepen their experience of prayer and live more reflectively. It offers opportunity to explore faith, discover meaning and come to a deeper, closer relationship with God.

The course fee is £340 but no one should feel excluded due to the cost as bursaries are available.

The method is primarily experience based and reflective. Sessions include input, space for prayer, guided pray and reflection, and small group sharing. In addition to the weekly group meetings participants are offered the opportunity of one to one spiritual accompaniment. Toward the end of the course there is a short non-residential retreat. After the course, an optional five week Retreat in Daily Life is offered through May for those wanting to deepen their experience further.

The course is open to those of any denomination and none. No particular experience of prayer is required, only a desire for God. Participants should be prepared to share some of their experience of prayer with others. Because of the participatory nature of the course, it is important that there is a commitment to attend regularly.

The team leading the course will be Dot McLaughlin, Sharon Laidlaw, Di Hollow and Claire Starr. The team are all members of the Epiphany Group - an ecumenical group of women and men working across Scotland committed to ministries arising form the Ignation Spiritual Exercises.

Leaflets with further information are available in Priory Lane. Please contact Kevan McLaughlin if you are interested in taking the course.

Single Life Workshop

Single Life Workshop is the curriculum that God released to Barry and Lori Byrne (who also wrote the Love After Marriage course) giving them a fresh strategy for healthy marriages. As the Byrnes saw the Lord's breakthrough and restoration in marriages, they realised that many marriage problems could be avoided by equipping singles with many of the elements used in their marriage workshop. Thus SLW has been designed to allow the Holy Spirit to bring deep inner healing in singles, together with tools and skills needed for healthy and fulfilling relationships as intended by God. The workshop is not about finding a mate but becoming healthy, confident and ready for an amazing marriage!

Over 36 hours, participants in the workshop will experience:
  • Fresh and bold teaching to confront deep-rooted issues that prevent them from forming healthy relationships
  • Loving themselves so that they will allow others to love them
  • Opportunities to practise sharing and being vulnerable within the safety of a small group
  • Hope for an amazing marriage and preparation for that significant person the Lord has for them
  • How to pursue and engage the opposite sex in relationship.
  • Cultivating healthy boundaries and learning the truth about "no"
  • Biblical revelation to see sex as the incredible gift God has given to a husband and wife
  • Homework assignments that challenge and activate the sessions
  • Having a good time while being in community and learning to trust others
This workshop is for ages 18 - 70, whether single, dating, engaged, divorced or widowed. It will take place in Edinburgh from 1st - 4th May 2015 and will be lead by Jeremy and Justin Byrne from Redding, California. The cost of the workshop is £130. There is some financial assistance for people who would like to attend the conference but would struggle to do so for financial reasons.

There will be a taster session on Thursday 9th April from 8 till 9 pm at St Mungo's Church Building, Ladycroft, Balerno Village, Edinburgh, EH14 7AG. This will be an opportunity to hear testimonies and have your questions answered. If you plan to go, please let the team know on slwkatrina@gmail.com
